Character Name: Zhang Qiling
Series: Doumu Biji
Age: 100+ (Looks 20)
From When?: After Ten Years, after he is done his duty. Before meeting up with Wu Xie.

Warden Justification:
Qiling spent a lot of his life guarding a secret that humanity is not ready to face. It is something that is the purpose of his whole family, and he had picked that up as a mission ingrained into his being without much thought to his own personal goals. That would translate well into the state of guarding and protecting, and although he is not the best guide in the world, he does have his heart in the right place. He might take a bit to warm to, but he would definitely help the person under his ward once that bond has been established to the best of his abilities.

Also, by method of elimination, a warden role suits him better than that of an inmate. First of all, he had not really done anything that needs to be redeemed from, although one could argue the morality of robbing ancient tombs. But that is an offense against the dead, and he had more often than not tried to help the living. Secondly, despite how motivations isn't something that is heavily considered, this is a man who is in need of a goal. He moves forward in life from goal to goal, between the completion of his family's mission, and his own in terms of regaining his memories. Becoming a warden may possibly attain both (see warden deal and special notes) and give him something to focus on.

Item:
A wooden Chinese compass that would always point to his ward. Its temperature reflect the state of his ward, normally steady at body temperature (what humans should be, not any extreme ones regardless what species his ward is). Further complicated status changes may appear as inscriptions that would appear and fade in the wording around the compass.

Abilities/Powers:
Despite his ability to fight some inhuman things in canon, Qiling is mostly human, if a long lived human. He is trained to the very limits of human capabilities in agility, perception, martial arts, and specific knowledge relating to dangers, traps, and general adventuring. His abilities are mainly from intense training since childhood and does not require any power nerfing.

General list include:
- proficiency in fighting especially with blades and throwing items, but can handle firearms
- agility and reflex
- solving booby traps and puzzles
- trained senses: in hearing, smell, and sight, with extremely sensitive touch especially through two extra trained fingers on the right hand
- overall body strength, his two fingers are capable of easily digging through the mortar of brick walls
- martial arts that allows him to 'shrink his bones' to change his size for purpose of fitting into smaller spaces or disguising as people with smaller stature
- master of disguising himself into another person (with cosmetic and equipment, including personality change and, in one instance, being talkative)
- extensive knowledge regarding various supernatural creatures, death, and tombs
- blood: his blood has an ability to repel evil to a degree, and bugs, snakes, plus other creepy crawlies
(Blood - By repelling evil, it kinda works like super strong DEET for any creepy crawlies. Bugs, arachnids, snakes, or things with evil aura like even some ghosts or zombies, give his blood a wide berth, or try to get away from it when his blood is exposed in the air. It gives him a slight immunity in the sense that bugs don't want to give him bites or would scatter if he decides to bleed himself, but it's hit and miss based on species, how strong the creatures are, etc.)

Wardening Strategies and Philosophies:
Qiling has a rather hands off strategy when he guides his wards. He observes more than talks, goes directly to activity instead of communicate, but he does observe closely even when the others does not think he is. Usually he takes action only when necessary, as he does not believe in doing too many unnecessary things, which might result in his ward running into some trouble before he would step in. And since his way of life is pretty spartan, basic necessities might be pretty minimal for his ward for a while.

Interaction is going to be a learning process for him since he is not very good at that from the start. He is a quiet man when left on his own, preferring to not voice anything except crucial information in very succinct wording. One thing he has going for him is patience though, and a willingness to solve the problem with a very singular mindset. If he has taken to redeeming an inmate as his mission and the deal he made, then that is what he will do regardless if he has a partner unwilling to be redeemed. However, being humane might not be something he is good at, mainly because his definition of humane might not match a normal person's.

It is hard to say what sort of inmate the character works well with since that will depend entirely on ooc chemistry rather than ic pairing. With equally quiet people, he can form a comfortable bond. With violent inmates (as long as they're power nerfed), he can fight them down to submission (or tie). He tolerated loud, incessant talkative characters before too, although a Deadpool might get on his nerves. It is less of a who he would or would not be a good fit for, and more like who can tolerate his muted personality. A lot of the time if left on his own, if he's not training in the Enclosure, he might just sit on the bulkhead to stare into the distance or people watch. So perhaps an active inmate would be the best to force him out of his happy solitude.

Deal:
Zhang Qiling suffers from a hereditary amnesia that causes him to lose his memories suddenly, perhaps every few years, so he only retains either very recent memories or those of very long ago past. He would like to be free from that illness, without the threat of constantly forgetting everything and everyone. He had spent much of his life retrieving old memories, and had called himself a man with no past and no future for that reason.

( Until Qiling gets more comfortable with people on the barge or the network or communication in general, he will be mostly a log based character who isn't very communicative via verbal or texting means. He'll watch the network, but his interactions will be rather reserved. Possibly, he'll do a video or a picture post here and there. "Mute Zhang" is an in canon nickname for him... so I apologize profusely for how little spoken/written network sample he is able to provide for day to day setting. )

Special Notes to Moderators: [ Canon Spoilers Warning ]
A big part of his character is he is responsible for guarding a secret called the Ultimate behind a set of closed door that may have something to do with life, death, and longevity. He has gone to do so in various 10 year gaps throughout his life although returns with amnesia and does not fully remember what happened. He ends the main series going into the door, stating that he is to be guarding it for 10 years. The canon never revealed what it is but simply something that is potentially mystical and big. One idea I may like to play with is to say that the Last Voyages is the Ultimate, and going on the Barge is what he is going to guard when he went to the end of the series. As in, he knows this. Perhaps not the details, but it's something he knows and accepts and believes he's destined to do.

IF this is allowed, that is to say his Ultimate leads him to a secret like TLV, then previous attempts could say he was on other ships as warden that he never remembers and we can handwave that as a background. Thanks to his amnesia, it could very well that he have forgotten any of the voyages he went on, perhaps on other barges in this fleet. Either way. That is one spin I am interested in moving forward for this character if the mods are okay with, and it would make playing the character easier (as opposed to several decade long gaps I need to headcanon due to canon mystery).

However, if that is not possible (I understand that this might be moving into AU territory), then I would like to make his canon point post his 10 year time guarding the door and... what is behind that door will simply be a mystery he never talks about.
